ID Card Recognition

The primary goal of our partnership with Kautra, the main long-distance bus services provider in Lithuania, is to improve the public transport experience through AI-driven image recognition technology.

A major focus of this project is the automation of discount certificate recognition, simplifying the boarding process for passengers entitled to discounts such as students and seniors. Traditionally, these passengers had to present physical certificates for manual verification, which caused delays and inefficiencies. By integrating advanced image recognition models, we will automated this process, allowing for real-time validation of discount certificates via mobile cameras installed on buses.

The system will instantly recognize and validate discount certificates, speeding up the boarding process by up to 20%. This image-based solution eliminates manual checks, freeing drivers to focus on safer and more efficient driving.

Technological implementation

The AI-powered image recognition technology will be integrated into 5G-enabled mobile cameras on buses. These devices will collect a continuous stream of data, which will then be processed through a centralized system. The data collected includes passenger behaviors, traffic patterns, and vehicle performance. The system will be trained to recognize various discount categories and instantly validate them as passengers board the bus.

To ensure efficient communication between passengers and drivers, the system integrates a real-time user interface that can operate on both Android and iOS platforms. Passengers can purchase tickets, plan journeys, and access real-time updates, while drivers receive actionable recommendations on optimizing their routes and managing passenger load.

Achievements and results

The implementation of image recognition is expected to show promising results, particularly in reducing boarding times. Additionally, by eliminating manual checks, drivers can focus on managing their routes and driving more safely, which leads to a 15% reduction in overcrowding on popular routes. Moreover, the system’s ability to learn and improve over time ensures that it remains accurate and efficient, even as passenger volumes grow or new discount categories are introduced.

The system’s flexible architecture, designed to integrate additional 5G devices and AI modules, allows for easy expansion across different transport networks. This ensures the technology can be adapted to other regions in Lithuania and potentially scaled to serve broader smart city initiatives in the future.

Future prospects

Our partnership with Kautra has built the base for further innovation in public transportation. Beyond that the core technologies of real-time data analytics, AI, and 5G have broader applications. Industries such as logistics, retail, and healthcare could benefit from similar solutions, where dynamic pricing, real-time monitoring, and predictive maintenance can enhance operational efficiency and service delivery.
