Data Analytics with Smart Sensors
Energy in Education Institutions / Case
Šiauliai municipality, like many others, faces challenges related to energy consumption in public institutions. To address this, a project focusing on energy efficiency in three schools was implemented with the aim to install an innovative digital energy consumption monitoring system to optimize resource use and reduce energy waste.
AAI Labs implemented a comprehensive system for monitoring electricity, water, and temperature via smart sensors, offering real-time analytics for energy consumption patterns.
“We expect that the solution developed by AAI Labs will improve energy efficiency and reduce costs. It will also automate the collection, analysis and reporting of energy consumption data. We look forward to the timely development of the system,” said Rigita Tijūnaitienė, Head of the Šiauliai City Coordination Unit.
Objectives
The project focuses on automating data collection through sensors that gather real-time data on electricity, water, and temperature in educational facilities, providing detailed insights without the need for manual input. This will enable school administrations to monitor and optimize energy use by analyzing consumption patterns, reducing wastage, and improving resource management. Unified data collection system allows for standardized comparisons of energy consumption across different institutions, helping to make informed decisions on energy-saving measures. Ultimately, the initiative promotes sustainability by reducing energy consumption, which in turn lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
Key functionalities
User-friendly dashboard
Administrators have access to a centralized web application that displays data through visual charts and graphs. They are be able to compare energy consumption across multiple facilities, generate reports, and make informed decisions based on reliable data.
Predictive analytics
The system utilizes machine learning models to predict future consumption based on past data, offering actionable recommendations for reducing energy wastage during peak times.
Reporting and alerts:
The platform automatically generates detailed reports and provides alerts for anomalies, such as sudden spikes in consumption. This will allow administrators to act quickly to resolve issues.
Integration and scalability
The solution is designed for easy scalability, allowing for future expansion to other public institutions. Additionally, the system can be integrated with existing energy management tools for broader applications.
Expected impact and results
Our solution is projected to reduce energy consumption in the three institutions by up to 15-20%, utilizing real-time data analysis and the ability to make informed decisions. By identifying energy wastage in heating, lighting, and water use areas, school administrators can make targeted interventions that cut down costs and improve resource efficiency.
As the project progresses, there is a great potential for scaling this solution to additional educational institutions and public facilities across Lithuania. The standardization of energy monitoring and integration of predictive analytics will further optimize resource management, making it a valuable tool for other sectors such as healthcare, municipal administration, and beyond.
